Yoga blocks

If you think Yoga blocks are just for beginners, then think again! Even if you are a more experienced yogini, using blocks lets you deepen your practice and gives you countless ways to mix it up.

Experiencing the poses in a new way

Yoga blocks assure proper alignment that allows for building muscle memory (which decreases the chance of injury) and, in particular, open channels for the breath – or prana – to flow freely.

Yoga blocks are probably the most essential yoga props used to facilitate or add challenge to the poses, help with alignment, and release tension.

Think about Yoga blocks as tools to work on your practice. They make postures more accessible to you by providing length, support, and ensuring proper alignment.

They also help yogis looking to advance their practice by acting as a tool for strength building and balance in more advanced postures.

How to use yoga blocks

When your body attempts to enter a pose that’s past its limits, your muscles tense up, but not in the muscle-building ways, preventing you from going deeper into the asana.

As you work on your flexibility and mobility, you might need the block in standing forward fold positions if your hands don’t reach the mat.

In side bend positions, place a block under your hand, reaching the floor ensures you’re not crunching the side body.

In lunging positions, use blocks on either side of your body to bring your hands to the floor without sinking into the hips and/or losing the integrity of an upward-lifting chest.

To keep the correct alignment of your knees to avoid painful injuries, and train the right muscles, place the block between your thighs in boat and bridge poses, and between your ankles in camel pose.

How many blocks do I need?

Getting two yoga blocks at once will make your practice considerably more versatile. You will be able to do a whole lot more poses while placing your hands on two blocks.

For length support in two-sided poses such as Full Split, Downward Facing Dog, and Camel.

Strength-building exercises such as jump-through or Elephant pose.

For extra support in restorative postures such as Bridge and Fish chest openers. Or if you are extra tight on one side and need extra length.

Quality comes first together with sustainability

Samarali Yoga blocks are made from recycled wine corks. They are very light but provide maximal stability in your more challenging asanas.

Rounded edges make sure you feel comfortable touching the block from every angle.

The cork surface is pleasant to touch and provides enough grip and stability. Moreover, it is sweat-absorbent, anti-bacterial, and super light.

The cork material is one of the most eco-friendly on the market nowadays.

Even though the foam blocks can be very affordable and softer, one of the biggest disadvantages is that some cheaper foam blocks may be flimsy, can’t support your body weight, and may even collapse.

The material is also susceptible to wear and tear and gets scratched or dented easily.

Yoga blocks made of foam are also the least eco-friendly option.

Cork: a wonder material

The Cork of our blocks is from the same place the blocks themselves are made: Portugal.

Cork is a completely renewable material that comes from the bark of a Cork Oak tree; it is harvested by peeling the bark off the trees, so they never have to be cut down.

After the cork is removed, the tree rejuvenates its bark that regrows every 8 -14 years over its 200-year lifespan – a completely sustainable process.

Cork bark rejuvenation absorbs CO2 from the air, leaving zero toxic or chemical remains, and is bio-degradable, which means it can be composted, keeping your product out of landfills.

How to clean the cork blocks

Cork yoga blocks require more attention as they absorb more moisture and sweat than wood or foam.

Wipe the surface with a wet cloth and dry thoroughly. To remove stains, add vinegar, soap, or soda to the water to create an organic cleaning solution.

Do not use harsh chemicals on the cork material.

Sustainable in all the stages

It is not just the end product that matters – a product has different stages of creation that involve various steps.

People bring energy and care to that product. To us, it is fundamental that each step goes through, following our values and ethics.

The packaging, too, has an enormous impact on sustainability and matters to us as the final product.

All our products are paper wrapped and shipped in paper-based packaging.

Since we aim to minimize our carbon footprint, we constantly look for solutions to bring us to a carbon-neutral state.

We, therefore, encourage you not to throw anything into the trash as everything is perfectly recyclable.
