In recent years, yoga has experienced a surge in popularity due to its exceptional physical and mental benefits.

When developing a personal yoga practice, you focus on different things depending on your preferences.

Some people use specific poses that can help them improve flexibility, others do that as a relaxation form that keeps them mentally happy, and some even practice yoga to reduce stress.

Some magnificent techniques that you can use in yoga exercises include meditation, breathing, and relaxation.

People mostly turn to yoga to reduce stress because it can relieve tension and physical blockages in the body (such as muscle knots).

Besides, yoga also promotes the release of mood-boosting endorphins (also known as the feel-good hormones).

When combined, these three aspects positively affect how you handle stress.

As you practice yoga, you become more aware of your body and surroundings.

All thoughts, feelings, and emotions that rush through you are ones you can recognize and handle healthily.

On top of it all, these specific yoga poses do so much more than reduce stress. They can help you cultivate feelings of love, serenity, and joy.

Best yoga poses for stress relief

Once you start discovering how to reduce stress, it is only uphill from there! Some of the best poses you can do include the ones we present below.

1. Cat-cow pose

Whenever you feel like you want to connect your body and your spirit, this pose can help you achieve just that.

It can calm down your mind, and it can help you alleviate stress.

Guide your body through the movement by controlling your breath.

Start in a tabletop position and place your palms right under your shoulders and knees right under your hips.

Inhale, turn your head toward the ceiling, and move your belly to the mat while arching your spine (cow pose).

Then, exhale, draw your chin to your chest, bend your spine toward the ceiling, and take your belly in (cat pose). Do this at least 10 times.

Because you’ll be arching your lower back a lot, you’ll need appropriate clothing.

For that reason, we recommend checking out our clothes section, where you’ll find the gorgeous Amazonia jumpsuit, which you can use both for your exercises and while you’re running your errands!

2. Legs on the wall pose

It is probably one of the favorite poses of many people who practice yoga to reduce stress.

Other than being perfect for deep relaxation, this pose can instantly boost circulation, making you feel rested and removing the pain in your legs from too much standing, sitting, or walking.

Start by sitting on the floor and facing a wall and pull your body as close to it as possible.

Lie flat on your back facing the wall, and place your legs on the wall with straight knees.

Position your hips as close to the wall as you can. Place your arms to the sides or alongside your body. Hold this pose for about 10-15 minutes.

3. Child’s pose

Another favorite among yogis, this magnificent pose can help you alleviate stress, give your body a burst of energy once again, and relax your body and your mind.

This is the pose you should consider doing every time you feel like you need a minute to pause and look inward.

If you need some extra support, you can make it happen – get a small cushion and place it under your torso, thighs, or forehead. Start in a kneeling position and put your knees together.

Then, sit back on your heels. Hinge your hips as you move forward, fold yourself, and rest your forehead on the mat.

Extend your arms in front of you and allow your torso to sink into your thighs.

Inhale and exhale as deeply as possible, allowing your body to settle into the pose and relax entirely. Hold for about 3-5 minutes at the most.

For extra support on your back and an additional stretch, consider using our bolster, decorated with unique embroidery inspired by yoga culture.

4. Corpse pose

There is nothing better than simply lying flat on your back on the floor. The simplicity of this exercise is just that – allowing your body to relax and unwind completely.

While you are doing the corpse, all you need to do is focus solely on your breathing to reduce stress.

Through that, you will let go of the tension and calm your mind. This exercise will take about 10 to 20 minutes, but trust us – it is completely worth it.

Start by lying flat on your back and place your feet a little wider than your hips, with your toes by the sides.

Do the same with your arms – position them slightly away from your body. Ensure your spine, head, and shoulders are properly aligned.

Start breathing deep and allow your body to relax. If you have been asking yourself how to reduce stress, we believe this pose is the perfect answer.
